Welcome to the busy world of third grade! I am looking forward to this school year and hope that we can work closely together to provide the best education for your child. Your child will have a binder that will go home and come back to school every day. In the binder you will find assignments, homework, parent/teacher communication etc. This binder will be used in an effort to help keep your child organized. I ask that you check the binder nightly to see what your child may need to do or for any letters to you from the school. Your child’s time at school is very important. We begin our day as soon as the bell rings at 7:47. Being tardy will cause your child to fall behind. My planning time is from 9:50-10:20. If you need to see me, please call and make an appointment with me. You can call the school at 256-2349 or email me at [email protected].
Discipline
Each child begins the day with an A in discipline. Their conduct grade will be sent home to you daily to check and sign. Students will flip cards for bad behavior, not returning notes, incomplete homework, etc. This is to help build self-discipline. If a child receives a C in discipline they lose visitation rights at snack time. If they earn a D, they will loose their snack. When they earn an F, they will go to the principal’s office and I will call home to let the parents know. The only excuse for missing work is a written letter from the parent explaining why they were unable to complete it. Forgetting it at school/home or having a busy evening is not an excuse.
Weekly papers will be sent home on Tuesdays for you to look at, sign and return by Thursday. If you find a mistake, please let me know. If your child corrects papers at home have them leave the incorrect answer and write their new answer to the side. Newsletter A weekly newsletter will go home on Monday. Homework assignments for math and science will be listed for students to complete each night. They are to complete both and have you sign their homework signature sheet they keep in their binder. Failure to do homework will result in flipping their card. If homework isn't completed twice they will loose privileges, if it exceeds twice in a week they will have to visit with administration.
At the start of the year the students will take a STAR MATH test which is used to place them in a math program. They will participate in the program daily. STAR MATH allows students to work at their individual pace and gradually improve thier math skills.
